Contact the Potentate

Illustrious Sir Paul Bekkenhuis
The other day a patron asked me what it was like to sit in the corner office of Sahib Shrine and what was expected of me as Potentate. I answered it was Great! As to what was expected of me, I am responsible to see that all the officers and employees carry out the duties of their positions as described in our International By-laws. In other words, The Potentate is the CEO of the Board of Directors and is responsible for “keeping the ship a float” and “steering a true course.” He is also responsible for the budget in his year as Potentate and complying with the rules and regulations required by Shriners International and Shriners Hospital for Children.
The fraternity’s official philanthropy is Shriners Children’s, which provides care for children who have orthopedic conditions, burn injuries, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate, along with other conditions, regardless of the family’s ability to pay or insurance status. In 1922, the first Shriners Hospital was opened in Shreveport, Louisiana. Today, you can find us on six continents, with nearly 200 temples, and thousands of Shrine Clubs located around the world.
As mentioned in one of our publications, Shriners are devoted to supporting their philanthropy with their time, energy, and incredible fundraising skills. In addition, several signature sporting events support Shriners Children’s, including the East-West Shrine Bowl™, a college football all-star game that has been played since 1925, and the Shriners Children’s Open™, a FedEx Cup golf tournament.
We welcome all Masons to become Shriners, if you are not currently a Mason and would like to be a Shriner, "because you asked", we can help you become a Mason. Call 941-366-4449, and ask for the Potentate or Recorder. If we are not available, we will return your call promptly. You will not regret that call.
