Ken Shipley


At the Annual Stated Meeting on December 7, Kenneth M. Shipley was elected our Treasurer for 2012.

Ken has been married to Lady Beatty for 44 years. They have a son, Ken, Jr., who is retired from the US Air Force (22 years as a pilot), he’s currently a Jet Blue airline pilot; a daughter, Tina who is an account executive with Connect Your Care and two grandchildren.

As a youngster, he was an Eagle Scout; in high school he was yearbook Editor-in-Chief, varsity soccer, basketball, lacrosse. He attended the University of Maryland 1964-66 and 1970-71, in Pre-Med (genetics), he participated in NCAA soccer & Lacrosse; in 1976 he went to University of Baltimore, where he earned a B.A. in Business Management.

Ken was in the US Navy from 1967-70 where he was a Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class; he was in Vietnam from 1968-1969 as a combat medic, where he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal; he was at Parris Island from 1969-70.

His business career took him to Proctor & Gamble where he was a unit manager; then to Clorox as a region manager; then to Merrill Lynch from 1984-94 (he held series 7, 8, 63, 65, life and health licenses), certified financial manager, office manager; then to S&S Financial Services from 1994-2004 as owner/manager of four offices (independent financial management).

Over the years he as been involved in many volunteer efforts: Clarksville Lions Club, 1976-present (all offices through club president, district zone chairman, district region chairman, 1992 multiple district governor (7,000 members), multiple district convention treasurer, vice chairman and chairman, multiple district international convention vice chairman and chairman), Melvin Jones Fellow, International President’s Leadership Award. He was with the Boy Scouts 17 years (Cub Master, Asst. Scout Master, Scoutmaster, District Training Chairman, Council training member), Wood Badge, District Award of Merit. He was with the Red Cross for 13 years (volunteer disaster relief, county chairman, Baltimore District board of Directors, District fund raising chairman.) He also served on the Baltimore Executive Board.

He was raised a Master Mason in October 2003 at Concordia Lodge No. 13, Towson, Maryland. He became a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason May 2004, Valley of Baltimore, where he was the 12th Degree Ceremonial Orator.

He became a Boumi Shriner in 2004 in Baltimore. He was a member of the Motor Corps and driver to Philadelphia Shriners Hospital for Children. He associated with Sahib Shriners in May 2006, the an affiliated in January 2007. He is currently Chaplain of the Sahib Motor Corps (working bikerbilly dinners, spaghetti dinners, poker runs, parades and hospital days), he is a hospital driver to the Tampa hospital, King Pins (pancake breakfasts), Hillbillies (most Thursday night suppers, picnics), Circus committee 2008, Circus chairman 2009, 2011-12. Bingo (afternoon caller, floor worker), County Fair: 2008-09, Chairman 2010-11, and belongs to the North Port Shrine Club.
