Editor's Note: I apologize to one and all, most especially Clown
Reporter columnist Neil Giroux (Ok-Ok) and the Sahib Shrine Clowns. The February
Clown article was sent to me in time for the February Reporter, but somehow I mis-handled it, and Neil's article was not included in the
February issue. I have created this special Web page, in an effort to
help correct my error. Links to this article will appear on the
What's New!
and
Reporter Web pages and the photos have been added to the
February 2010
Reporter color photo album.

Your Sahib Shrine Clowns started the 2010 year with a fresh slate of officers, and a newly amended set of Clown Unit by-laws.
Charles “Sparky” (call me Butch) Powers was elected Boss Clown for 2010, and Anthony “Sparkles” Vignocchi fills the bill of 1st Assistant Boss for 2010 as well. Fred “Buckey” Phillips was re-elected unit secretary and Fred “Poko” Heinzman was returned to the treasurer’s post for another year. The 2nd Assistant post went unfilled.
Boss Butch promises an exciting year, and work is underway for exciting and worthwhile clown performances at the February Shrine Circus.
The by-law changes, subject to an assent from the Potentate, were aimed at bringing the Clown Unit by-laws up-to-date, insuring dignity for the veteran clowns who continue to work for the Clown Unit. The amendments also made brand new provisions for the warm welcoming to the Sahib Clown Unit for experienced Shrine Clowns who relocate to the Sarasota area, and seek to clown at Sahib Shriners.
Looking past the Shrine Circus, the Sahib Clowns are planning a trip to the Florida Shrine Clowns Association’s 2010 confab set for Ocala in May. A weekend of costume and makeup competitions, and one-man and multi-man skit competitions are in the works, and Sahib’s own Joe “Boogie” Humphreys moves up on the Vice-President’s line of the Florida Shrine Clown Association. Clowns who want to join the Ocala trip should contact Fred Phillips very soon.
Glancing back into December 2009, the clowns were in the midst of the Sahib celebrations. The clowns were well represented at the Sarasota Holiday Parade on December 3, and the December 12 Sahib Shriner’s party
(see photos below) for the area’s Shrine Hospital children and their families. The clowns even assumed the extra duty of hauling Santa from his North Pole hide-a-way to the Sahib Shrine and back.
That’s all folks!
