Sahib Shrine 2012 Oriental Guide
Carroll Scriber


At the Annual Stated Meeting on December 7, Carroll “Scrib” Scribner was elected our Oriental Guide for 2012.

Scrib was born in Portland, Maine, in 1935 to a large working family where he learned honesty, sharing, perseverance, faith and hard work, all of which have stood him in good stead throughout his life. With the death of his father when Scrib was 12, he went to work to support himself and help out in the family.

Scrib worked his way through the University of Southern Maine where he earned Bachelors , Masters and Masters Intermediate Degrees. His life’s’ work has been as a teacher and school administrator at all levels, known for rebuilding and redirecting schools.

He is a retired USAR officer, where he completed all required military training up to and including Command and General Staff College.

Scrib is the father of four children, a proud grandfather of seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren all who live in Maine. He and his Lady Sandy have been married for 39 years are justly proud of all of the family and always look forward to family visits. They have a cottage home in Maine where they spend part of each summer and look forward to family outings.

Masonically, he is a forty-year member of Tranquil Lodge No. 29, AF&AM in Auburn, Maine, Scottish Rite, Valley of the Androscoggin in Auburn, Maine, and Consistory, Valley of Portland, Maine.

In 1974, he joined Kora Shriners in Lewiston, Maine. He held positions of Shrine Club Director , officer and president. He was a Potentate’s Personal Aide for two years, he and Lady Sandy traveled with the Divan to assist the Potentate and his lady in the performance of their duties. He was Chairman of Ambassadors for four years, reorganized 200 men into a prominent and respected working group that continues to this day. Scrib was also membership chairman where he re-organized the committee and brought in 600 members in three years. At Kora he was fundraising spokesman for 15 Potentates, raised over $350,000 for various projects. He served on numerous event committees, such as the North East Shrine Conventions, Balls, workshops, trips, competitions, ceremonies. He was Kora Shriner of the Year in 1995. He also founded the Crazy Cops Parade Unit and was Chief for 10 years. It is currently one of the premier units at Kora with over 45 active members. He was Units Colonel for five years, where he organized and led all parades and coordinated unit activities. He founded the Order of “Q”, Teocalli #59 in Kora and assisted at Tierra del Oso Negro Teocalli #869 in Anah Shriners in Bangor, Maine. He was known as the Godfather of Q in Maine and was awarded the #1 OKET award and the first “Q” Life Membership for Service in Maine.

In 2003, Scrib became a member of Sahib and has proudly served as a Venice Shrine Club officer and President. He is also a member of the North Port Shrine Club and the Manatee Shrine Club. He started as an Aide, serving on a number of committees including the membership and retention committees. He was named Director of Clubs. He is a member of the King Pins, Hillbillies, volunteers at Bingo, is a county fair volunteer, a Hospital Days volunteer and circus volunteer. In 2011 he was appointed 1st Ceremonial Master. He belongs to Venice Shrine Club, North Port Shrine Club, Manatee Shrine Club, Gulf Shrine Club and the Hillbillies. In the King Pins he is “Egg Scrambler First Class.”
