Sahib Shrine 2010 Chief Rabban
Tom Millaway
At the Annual Stated Meeting on December 2, 2009, Assistant Rabban Tom Millaway was elected our Chief Rabban for 2010.Tom is a native of Camden, New Jersey, where he was educated. He entered military service in the US Navy, where he served most of his time aboard the carrier Coral Sea. Upon his discharge in Boston, Massachusetts, he decided to remain in the New England area where he began his career in retail. He now resides in North Port and has been married to his wife Kaye for 40 years.
He was raised at Charles C. Dame Lodge in June 1995 and joined the Aleppo Shriners in 1997, where he became a member of the Clown Unit. Transferring to Montgomery Lodge, he served two years as treasurer of his Blue Lodge, while also serving three years as treasurer of the Clown Unit. He then served two years as Assistant Boss Clown of his unit.
While at Aleppo, Tom earned six consecutive "Red Nose" awards which are given for 150 hours in ‘face’ and raising at least $150 in donations for the Red Sneaker Fund. This was followed by a "Gold Nose," which is awarded for six consecutive Red Noses. He has competed in many clown competitions, winning Northeast (NESCA) for best character clown. Since moving to this area, he also placed first in All Florida (FSCA) as well as third place in Southeast (NESCA). He also has many "Top Ten" awards in national and mid-Atlantic competitions.
Tom moved to Florida and immediately joined both Sahib Shriners and the Clown Unit. In January 2006, he was appointed by Ill. Sir Homer Cranmer to the post of 2nd Ceremonial Master, as well as Membership Chairman. Subsequently, he was appointed 1st Ceremonial Master. He is a member of North Port Shrine Club, Manatee Shrine Club, Venice Shrine Club, as well as the Clowns, Hillbillys, King Pins, Mariners, Kentucky Colonels and the "Q."
